Take Action

Current Actions

  • Stimulate Transit Operations
  • Make sure Bus Rapid Transit service meets community needs

Personal emails are most effective. We encourage you to write your own comments.

  • Tell the Governor to Fund the Sustainable Communities He Supports
  • Pedestrian deaths are preventable. Demand safer streets!

Thousands of Americans of all ages have been struck down in the simple act of walking. These "accidents" overwhelmingly occur on roads that are dangerous by design, with little or no provision for people on foot, in wheelchairs, or on a bicycle.

With the 52 largest metro areas spending just $1.39 per person of federal funds on bicycle and pedestrian projects, it’s no wonder our streets are so dangerous.

To make our streets safer, we need better design. And just as importantly, we need leaders who will drive those improvements.

Ask your representatives to make pedestrian safety a priority.

  • Tell Senator Boxer: I HEART TRANSIT!!

Upcoming jobs and transportation bills are a chance to get our transit systems back on track – plus create new jobs and drive our economy in a green way.  Investing in public transportation is one of the best ways to save and create jobs FAST.

Send Senator Boxer a message urging her to make sure transportation can help drive California's economic recovery!

  • Thank you for looking out for Civil Rights

On January 15, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced that in its rush to push through the Oakland Airport Connector project, BART had not completed legally required Title VI Civil Rights analysis and that federal funding for the project was on hold. This action validates concerns raised last year that BART was ignoring community voices during the planning process.  FTA has taken a strong stand for fairness and openess in the public planning process, take a second to tell them we appreciate it!

  • Senators Boxer and Feinstein: Support the Public Transportation Preservation Act Now!

The Senate introduced legislation that would provide emergency funding relief for local transit systems. If this bill is passed, we would see significant relief for public transit agencies here in the Bay Area and statewide.

The Public Transportation Preservation Act of 2010 contains $2 billion in grants for transit agencies across the country for operating trains, buses and ferries by allowing existing capital funds (funds for buying and building new stuff) to be used for operations (actually running stuff).

Write Senators Boxer and Feinstein today and ask them to pass this emergency transit funding bill as soon as possible.

  • Tell BART the Oakland Airport Connector is too risky!

The BART Board's final vote on moving ahead with the Oakland Airport Connector is this Thursday.  Tell BART it's too risky to approve!

BART staff continue to ram the Oakland Airport Connector project through, despite huge risks to existing BART service and the fact that the project still doesn't meet federal civil rights requirements.

Email the BART Board today to urge them not to support moving ahead with the Oakland Airport Connector at this time.

  • Tell MTC Commissioners to Support Higher Targets and Healthier Communities!

In response to state law (SB 375), every region in California will soon be assigned transportation-related greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets. On Wednesday, July 28, at 10 a.m. in Oakland, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) will approve GHG reduction targets for the Bay Area. MTC staff has recommended only a 10% reduction by 2035, which is too low to achieve truly healthy, vibrant neighborhoods and is lower than targets being recommended by other regions like San Diego and Sacramento. Bay Area citizens have long been proud of our environmental leadership, now is the time to step up and continue our crucial statewide role.

Send an email today to the MTC Commissioners urging them to support higher targets for the Bay Area for 2035!

Please take time to personalize your letter with a story about how walkable neighborhoods with transit options would make your life better.

  • Tell Senator Boxer to Deliver the Transportation Bill We Need

For nearly a year, Congress has dragged their feet in moving ahead with a new federal transportation bill.

Finally, some movement is happening – with Senator Boxer at the helm of the powerful Environmental and Public Works Committee writing the bill.

We must tell Senator Boxer to champion a bill that breaks with the past - and dramatically shifts funds towards public transportation, smart growth, and keeping our existing transportation infrastructure in great shape.

Senator Boxer has the power to shape the transportation reauthorization bill that could put America on the path toward oil independence and cleaner air, and revitalize California’s economy and communities.

    Email Senator Boxer now!

  • Save Our Transit: Stop Wasteful Spending on the OAC

The Bay Area's Metropolitan Transportation Commission says that public transportation faces a potentially crippling $17 billion shortfall.  Now is not the time to waste $500 million on BART's Oakland Airport Connector project when there are more affordable alternatives!

TransForm just released an independent analysis by a nationally-renowned firm that shows what a boondoggle this really project is: taxpayers will spend $102 for each new ride on the Oakland Airport Connector. That's way above the project's original $9/ride subside and it will cost us $408 each time a family of 4 takes this slow 3-mile tram that drops them in the Airport parking lot!

Help us overwhelm the Metropolitan Transportation Commission with public outcry to say NO to this wasteful project:
