Protect Bike/Ped Funding in Federal Transportation Bill
When the Senate passed their version of the federal transportation bill on March 14, 2012 with a supermajority, we were thrilled that this pivotal legislation is finally moving forward.
This forward-thinking bill, shepherded by California's own Senator Boxer:
1) Ensures that when federal funds are used on roads, they meet minimum safety standards for making the roads safe and complete for everyone, whether motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, wheelchair users or transit riders.
2) Restores – and makes permanent – tax benefits for public transportation commuters equal to those of car drivers.
3) Protects designated funds for walking and biking by maintaining local control over these funds.
4) Maintains guaranteed funding for the Mass Transit Account.
But the protection of designated funds for walking and biking, known as the Cardin-Cochran amendment, is under attack.
Email your Senator and Congressperson today and urge them to defend the Cardin-Cochran amendment.
